Today Vox Africa hosted a press conference for the second explosive edition of the world's biggest African music festival, Africa Unplugged, which takes place on the 14thof September 2014 at the 02 Brixton Academy and on the 21stof September at the RITZ Manchester. Confirmed headline acts are Afropop princess Tiwa Savage and Skelewu singer Davido. Included on the line up is UK Afrobeats sensation Mazi Chuks, and East Africa's finest, Diamond Platnumz! Also on the panel was event organiser Toba, representative of Save the Congo charity and T-money. Other guests expected to perform on the night include D3 Dancers, CEO Dancers, Afrika and Project G. They were asked a series of questions about the expectation of the show and the impact they personally have on African music. Tiwa Savage talked about how it would unite Africa and attract positivity to the continent despite all the negative attention it has been receiving.
When asked by presenter Adesope what the vision of Africa Unplugged was, Toba emphasised on the dream of making Africa Unplugged the biggest African music festival in the world, where musical acts all over Africa come together and showcase an assortment of talent. He also likened it to Glastonbury and hinted that there will be a few surprises on the night, dance and comedy like no other.
The first Africa Unplugged festival in 2012, hosted at Wembley Arena was very successful and included acts such as: Iyanya, Sarkodie, Femi Kuti and 2face Idibia. Despite its success and the countless of positive reviews the event recieved, the show did not commence the year after but this year the show is set to be the biggest thing the African community has ever seen.
The press conference will be aired tonight on Sky 218+DStv 191+GOtv 16!
