President Goodluck Jonathan has charged Nigerians to shun all forms of corrupt practices in the country.
The President gave the charge on Monday while speaking at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Annual National Management Conference of the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) held in Warri, Delta state, The Nation reports.
Jonathan, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation, Yemi Adelekun, stated that getting rid of corrupt practices is a sure way of setting the nation on a path of greatness. He said administration's Transformation Agenda is aimed at leaving lasting legacies behind.
The Nigerian number one citizen who further charged the NIM to maintain its current drive in ensuring professionalism among its practitioners said: "to set this country on the path of greatness and prosperity, complete elimination of all forms of corrupt practices must be in the front burner of our collective consciousness always."
He said his transformation agenda was a clear demonstration of his administration's sincere intention to leave a lasting legacy that will be a reference point for subsequent ones.
"You will agree with me that a great nation evolved through great leadership built on good governance, this is our motivation and value proposition" Jonathan said.
Also at the event, Delta State governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, who gave a key note address, called for the empowering of the institutions in order to achieve national goals of democratic governance and sustainable development.
Uduaghan, who was also represented by Solomon Funkekeme, the state's Commissioner for Works remarked that the judiciary and its affiliates like the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCBC), should be managed by people with technical expertise and moral competence.
Meanwhile, President Jonathan who is now charging Nigerians to shun corrupt practices had earlier said "There is no corruption but mere stealing in Nigeria" during the last Presidential Media Chat.
It would be recalled that under President Jonathan's administration, the former Minister of Aviation Ms Stella Oduah, was fingered in a N255m bulletproof cars purchase, which the House of Representatives ordered to be returned, before the drama later died a natural death. On the other hand, Petroleum Minister, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, was also recently indicted for using the sum of N10bn to hire private jet for non official use.
