Nigerian Police Devise New Ways To Tackle Yahoo Boys
Worried by the prevailing cases of cyber crime popularly referred to as 'Yahoo Yahoo' in various states of the country, police authorities has unveiled plans to deploy new strategies to curb the crime.
The International Police (Interpol) Unit is planned to be deployed to state police commands to effect immediate arrest of Yahoo Boys and others involved in all sorts of cyber crime.
According to reports, efforts are on to equip the unit with relevant tools and techniques to boost its capacities.
The police has also established and maintained a high-tech criminal information system to boost ability of the police to cooperate with other international law enforcement agencies.
This was disclosed by the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, during the the Interpol Cybercrime training organised in Abuja.
Idris explained that the police had set up and deployed dedicated high-tech and cybercrime unit to work with the Interpol in the country.
The police chief added that the training was critical in boosting capacities in the fields of IP crime enquiries, identity fraud, online tracking of suspects and electronic crime scene investigation, among others.
