A crisis within the Aiye confraternity has led to the death of its leader who was hacked to death by his own followers.
Daily Post reports that operatives of the Zonal Intervention Squad of the Zone 2 Command, Onikan Lagos state have arrested two members of the group in connection with the brutal murder.
Police said the suspects were also involved in the fight between Eiye rival cult group in Otta and Ifo areas of Ogun State which left over 20 people dead.
The force's zonal spokesperson Muyiwa Adejobi said the suspects identified as Sheriff Afeeri and Owoseni Wasiu were arrested at Agosi area of Ifo, Ogun State as they planned more attacks.
Wasiu reportedly said that the group's leader, who was simply identified as Niyi, was hacked to death by some members to forcefully remove him from office.
Wasiu however denied being responsible for Niyi's death. Wasiu said:"I did not kill Niyi, Akube and Heritage did. They hacked him to death with an axe. It was Niyi's group that came to attack us."
Sheriff also denied being connected with Niyi's death. According to him, he was on hospital bed when the incident occurred.
"Late Niyi was our leader. New members, referred to as youths, alleged that he was lavishing the confraternity's money and told him to leave for another person to take over, but he refused."
