The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has re-arrested a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode on Friday, October 21, 2016.
The former Minister of Aviation was re-arrested by detectives of the premier anti-graft agency around 1.55pm outside the premises of a Federal High Court on Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Ikoyi, Lagos.
The apprehension of Fani-Kayode is not unconnected to the 17-count charge of money laundering to the tune of N4.9 billion filed by the commission in Abuja against him.
Fani-Kayode, who was in court for his trial over an alleged fraud of ‎N4.9bn, was re-arrested shortly after he stepped out of the court premises.
His re-arrest is coming barely days after the commission had ordered the detention of his wife; Mrs. Precious Fani-Kayode in Ado Ekiti.
On Monday, Mrs. Fani-Kayode, who was in Ado-Ekiti as a guest of Governor Ayodele Fayose, had gone to Access Bank branch in Ado Ekiti around 3pm for transactions when she was detained by officials of the bank acting on the orders of the EFCC.
In a statement issued on Monday night by its spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC blamed her attempt to withdraw money from an account which the agency had frozen for her arrest.
A statement the ex-minister's wife reacted to with a rebuttal.
More details to be added as the story develops…
