Spanish andFC Köniz star, Carlos Varela believes Portugal captain, Cristiano Ronaldodoesn't get all the credit he deserves because of his good looks.
Speaking with AS sport, the formerBaslemidfielder said: 'I do not understand how anyone could criticize him; I think his image has a (negative) effect. People are jealous and envious of him. If he were ugly, they would have treated him better.'
The footballer also picked Cristiano Ronaldo as a better player in comparison with his rival, Lionel Messi.
'He should have won more than two Ballon d'Or awards. Messi is not even half the player that Ronaldo is.
'Messi has not shown the world what he can do another club, unlike Ronaldo, who has already proven himself atManchester United.'
Messi, who has won the Champions League three times withBarcelona, the only club he has ever played for, has been named the World's Best Player 4 times while Ronaldo has won the Champions League twice – 2008 withManchester Unitedand in 2014 with Real Madrid.
He has so far been named the World's Best Player twice.
