Track Your Lost Android Phone With Android Device Manager

Android phones come with GPS navigation which is a very good location software and it works well with Google Maps. Various android antivirus software like  Avast and Netqin comes with anti-theft options that uses the GPS function to locate any lost or stolen phone and even control the phone's actions.
Google also released an app that is solely for that function,Android Device Manager.
Android Device Manager is a Google's official and easy-to-use tool to track your Android phone or tablet.  The feature works similarly to other locator services, like iOSFind My iPhoneandBlackberry Protect.  You can use it to:
● Reset your device's screen lock PIN
● Erase all data on the phone
● Locate Android devices associated with your Google account
For you to be able to use it to locate your Android device, you must first activate the service on your device and also turn on location access for Google services.
I used it just now to track my Android phone that is in my hand and below is the screenshot from the Android device manager app on my phone.
Activate Android Device Manager
In order to see if ADM is ready for your handset , go toSettings>Security>Device Administrators.  If the service is available for your device you should see a single option with a checkbox labelled "Android Device Manager," if this is present tick the checkbox and click the activate button.
To turn on location services for Google services. Go toSettings>Google>Location Settings. Turn it on.
Using The ADM To Locate Android Phones
To use Android Device Manager, go tohttps://www.google.com/android/devicemanagerand log in with the Google account associated with your Android device. You may get a prompt asking you for permission to allow Android Device Manager to use location data. Click on the"Accept"button to continue.
You can also use theAndroid Device Manager app.  You can install it on a friend's android phone if not already installed so you can use it to track your own Android device. You can sign in using theguest modeand your Google account credentials. Then, you should be able to track your lost device, let it ring or wipe its data.
If you already have an Android device with location services turned on then it should automatically appear on your list. The location of your Android device will appear automatically on the map, along with the name of the place, when it was last used, and when it was last located. You can zoom in and out of the map to check out the location.
Are you not able to locate your phone this way? This can happen for several reasons. The one you should hope for, is that your device is simply not connected to the internet or turned off. In that case, simply keep trying to track it until it (hopefully) connects to Google's services again.
In case it got stolen, it's possible that the thief has disconneced your device from your Google Account. If that happens, neither Android Device Manager nor any other tracking tool will be able to locate the device, since it's necessary to be logged into your Google Account.
