Osun State IRS Shuts Down MTN Branch Over Tax Evasion

The Inland Revenue Service in Osun state has carried out its initial threat in April to shutdown all the MTN masts within its jurisdiction over unpaid right of way levies totalling N399.4 million. This has caused the locals to be without mobile network for the week it has been shutdown.
According To Techsuplex.com, the Chairman/CEO of the revenue board, Dayo Oyebanji while speaking on the development, said that the state government, "will ensure total compliance with the tax law that all outstanding tax fees must be paid before the base stations are off the hook".
Oyebanji said "the State Government of Osun shut down some of the MTN base stations within her jurisdiction as a result of its failure to pay outstanding taxes, fees and charges in respect of Base Stations, and right of way for laying fibre optics due to the State Government since last year."
It was also reported that although talks for settlements may or may not be in place, both parties- MTN and the Osun Government- will account for losses–MTN from not being able to discharge it's services to customers, and Osun state via reduced economic activity due to the shutdown.
