Jay-Zwas the centre of attention at theBarclay's Centerlast Tuesday when he wore a controversial medallion symbolizing theFive Percent Nation; which stands for "white people are 'wicked and inferior' to black men."
The Brooklyn-born rapper was sitting court-side at aNetsgame with wife Beyoncewhen he was snapped wearing the controversial symbol. When asked by a reporter whether the medallion is meaningful to him,Jay-Zshrugged and said,"A little bit".


This isn't the first time that the rapper has been connected to theFive-Percenters. He was photographed wearing another similar medallion while giving radio interviews for his albumMagna Carta Holy Graillast summer. And in'Heaven' a track on that album,Jay-Zreferences theFive-Percentersacronym forAllahby rapping 'ArmLegLegArmHead'.
Five Percent Nationis an off-shoot of theNation of Islamand was founded in 1963 by Harlem, New York nativeClarence Smith, a former student of Malcolm X. ButSmithdecided to split off from theNation of Islamafter disagreeing over their definition ofGod.
Followers of theNation of Islambelieve that founderWallace Fard MuhammadisGod, butSmithdoesn't agree since he believes thatGodcan only be 'purely black' and "Muhammad was bi-racial".
