Several delegates to the National Conference on Thursday in Abuja have called to increase the number of states in Nigeria to help marginalised groups and ethnic minorities have a sense of belonging.

"... I am from one of the most marginalised part of this country," said Emmanuel Tsamdu, who represents former Local Government Chairmen, from North East. "Our past leader and hero, late Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Saudana of Sokoto promised that we should be treated equally with other provinces, such as Borno, Adamawa and Bauchi but today it is only my province that is not a state," he added.Tsamdu proposed to put minorities in one state that will be free of marginilisation. He even came up with a name for the new state: Amana, from Adamawa state.
Justice F. F. Tabai, a retired justice of the Supreme Court, representing the Judiciary, and John Uko, a
delegate representing North Central, supported the idea of the fellow delegate.
Uko also called for power rotation at all levels of government.
"The minority have been given attention in Mr President's speech as he emphasised on inclusion, consensus and harmony. Let us support states creation and power rotation at all levels of government. In the way the Idoma and Igede minority of Benue State can dream big dreams," he said.Do you think more states should be created in Nigeria?
