According to a family source, Olukoga, who was the only son of his parents, was planning to celebrate his 24th birthday on March 15.
It was learnt that the victim was trailed by the gang members to Amu Street around 11am on Thursday.
He was first hit with a sledge hammer before being stabbed several times with a dagger.
The matter was said to have been reported at the Olosan Police Division, Mushin.
A family source, who pleaded anonymity, described the victim as quiet and respectful.
The source said, "The incident happened on Thursday, February 20, 2014. I suddenly got a telephone call from my younger sister that someone told her to receive Segun's (Olukoga) corpse in the hospital where he had been taken to.
"I heard that he went to Solomon Hall for something. Then the gang members followed and when they got him, they first hit him with sledge a hammer in the head and then brought out a dagger and stabbed him many times.
"My brother was a gentle and respectful young man and did not have any misunderstanding with anybody."
The source said the police had always been helpless in the many cases of murder in Mushin.
"We are leaving it to God," she added.
Sources within the area identified the man who led the attack on Olukoga as one Adebayo, aka Oyinbo, a notorious gang leader in Mushin.
He was said to be on the run and had been declared wanted by the police for murder of no fewer than seven other people.
