Lagos State Ministry of the Environment, through the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) Brigade, the Law Enforcement Unit of the Ministry, recently clamped down on illegal traders at Oke-Odo via Abule Egba in Agbado-Oko Odo Local Council Development Area of the State.
The KAI Brigade embarked on a surprise raid on the illegal street traders who had turned the Abeokuta Express Road, the drainage and walkway into their market thereby causing human and vehicular traffic hold up in the area.
Mr. Amos Onipede, KAI Administrator, speaking after the operation, explained that the operation was carried out in accordance with the State Government Policy to make Lagos clean and free from illegal traders.
Noting that Government was determined to get rid of all categories of street traders, he appealed to the traders to look for a conducive and legal place to operate their business.
The operation, which gave respite to the residents and motorists who plied the axis, resulted in the arrest of 25 Street traders with their wares for illegal trading on the roads and were later handed over to officials of the magistrate court based inside the Brigade Head Office at Alausa for prosecution.
Residents and commuters in the area expressed their joy and appreciation over the crack down on the illegal traders and demolition of their kiosks on the axis by the KAI operatives
