D'Banj claimed he cancelled this year's Koko Concert to honour Late Nelson Mandela'sMadiba Legacy Concertorganized byEbonyTV, however in a recent interview conducted by NigerianTribune with an unnamed artiste manager, the manager said thus;
"D'Banjhad admitted to my artiste that he was having problems getting a sponsor and would not hold the concert if his attempts at getting one fails. He spent a lot of money in bringingIdris Elbaand others to the country last year and does not want to do so alone this year. So, when I read on Twitter that he said he was cancelling the concert to honourMandela, I just laughed at the PR-driven lie."
