LAKE: Islamic University of Technology (IUT) at Gazipur,
A Nigerian foreign student of Islamic University of Technology (IUT) drowned in a lake of the university at Boardbazar in Gazipur city Saturday [Apr. 19] night.
The deceased was identified as Tahir Mannir Adamu, 24, a third year student of the computer science department and a resident of the South Hall.
Masud Mia, khadem (caretaker) of the university mosque, said he had seen Tahir falling into the lake, when he was returning from cafeteria after taking dinner around 10:25pm.
Masud then shouted for help. Tahir eventually drowned in the lake. He was recovered from the lake around 11:00pm, and rushed to Tongi Government Hospital around 11:20pm, where the doctor on-duty declared him dead.
Md Shamsuzzaman Chowdhury, assistant secretary of the South Hall, said he had seen that Tahir was listening to music from his cell phone sitting on a wall of the lake around 10:15pm.
Kamrul Islam, sub-inspector of Joydevpur Police Station, said after the post-mortem around 4:00pm (yesterday, April 20) the body was taken to Dhaka to send it to Nigeria.
Ahsan Habib, the registrar of the university, filed a general dairy with Joydebpur Police Station yesterday morning.
